ABOUT MATT: I grew up in Newport during the epic years of the 60's and 70's and still continue to surf 43 years later with enthusiasm as if I just started. I started the School by word of mouth 25 years ago and to My surprise it grew to be the go to surf school for those who were seeking real surf instruction from world class professional Instructors. I established and pioneered the first "private" surf school 25 years ago geared for those who are serious and committed to learn without being distracted by a group camp type of setting which is unsafe and ineffective! There are many who have tried to follow My lead and other surf schools, Guy's out of shops, friends, former Instructors and camps who have popped up in the past few years but cannot equal My superior lesson plans and surf school because I am licensed, insured and permitted to operate in the City of Newport. I take great pride when I know that the student has the same passion as I have about surfing and pass on all My years of knowledge to Him or Her.  My education started at Newport Elementary, Ensign Middle School then I graduated Corona del Mar High School in 1977. I started College at St. Mary's College of California then transferred to Chaminade College of Honolulu, Hawaii with undergraduate studies and my majors in Business, Political Science with a Certificate in Education which has been beneficial in My teaching and creating lesson plans. I competed in the late 70's in Hawaii and California but My passion was dedicated to exploring secret surf spots in which many have been found out in the past 15 years. Surfing adventures has been the focal point going to uncrowned places and planning My next surf trip to some exotic island where there are still uncrowded surf spots. More adventures to come! Matt in Bali I was featured in SURFING MAGAZINE during a surf session on a huge HURRICANE swell at the "Newport Point" in 1980. **See photo page** I love to be at the beach surfing with My students and the school gives me the incentive to continue to pass on my secrets, experience, knowledge on so that the novice will be confident as they continue to surf after My signature "Curriculum" program. I enjoyed competing in contests but I enjoy and get more out of surfing when I'm free surfing with a soulful flowing natural "spiritual experience" with a couple of My friends in the line up at an uncrowded surf spot.
